The Hopkins Quarterly’s fiftieth anniversary volume is a festschrift which honors the legacy of Fr. Joseph J. Feeney, SJ (1934–2023). Guest edited by Jude V. Nixon (Salem State University), this collection of essays explores many different aspects of Hopkins’ work. The contributions to this volume break new ground on a variety of topics: in addition to penetrating studies of the stylistic features of Hopkins’ verse, the essays deploy a range of approaches—from the philosophical to the philological and from the biographical to the bibliographical. While adding to our understanding of Hopkins, these pieces also pay tribute to amiable, erudite, and ludic late colleague who was also a longtime co-editor of The Hopkins Quarterly itself.
